Tony and Gillian Argentino's 1936 Chev drag racer is known as "The Hitman", and is a theme car that represents history from America, which now resides in Perth, Western Australia. With its curvy shapes and vivacious body, the car represents beauty, charm and character, all whilst the tough supercharged and injected alcohol burning engine provides power for the machine. Recent testing of the car got Tony familiar with all of the levers and buttons, and the crew kept the car working good enough through two successive race days and acquired several personal best times along the way. When testing a car of this caliber, power and driver need to familiarize and adjust, and the team was exceptional in achieving what they have in just three outings. Hitman Racing is also heavily involved off the track where Gillian takes care of marketing the car. She has been involved with the establishment of Supercharged Outlaws in Western Australia, and more info and merchandise is available from http://www.superchargedoutlawswa.com.au Tony has been racing on and off since he was 17 (23 years) starting in street, then modified until Outlaws started in WA and is best known for their previous car, a 1934 Ford 3 window coupe altered. This Hitman car was purchased from Terry Hall of Terry Hall Race Car Bodies in Vermont USA. It was running Pro-Mod and the Super Chevy series and has a best time of 6.30 @ 220mph. The Argentino's purchased the car as a roller, and are using the engine and gearbox from their old '34. The car is a 1936 Chevy Master (carbon fibre), it has a chrome-moly chassis, 442 cubic inch Chevy (iron block) and the engine is built and maintained by Tony. Induction comes from a 14-71 Littlefield hi-helix retro supercharger, it has an FTC converter and 2-speed Powerglide, and the rear end is a Mark Williams modular rear with Strange Ultracase 4.56 gears and 40 spline axles. Google Project 10^100 (10 the 100th) Submission Concept: What if you could convert wind into useable energy or even store it for later use with a device that has no moving parts and greater efficiency than a wind turbine? Overview: The Wind Snorkel is 30-ft tall column with an aerodynamically design air intake that diverts the prevailing wind into the tapered column which then converts wind (i.e. kinetic energy) into compressed air (i.e. potential energy). By creating a column that gradually increases in size towards the ground the velocity of the airflow drops due to the increase in area. This decreased velocity in turn causes the pressure inside the column to rise (per Bernoullis Law). By the time the airflow reaches the bottom of the column, 90% or more of the kinetic energy has been converted into compressed air, compressed air that can then be used to displace or pump water, generate electricity or be stored for later use, etc. Using the same aerodynamic principles used in Formula 1 race cars and modern aircraft, the Wind Snorkel provides quiet, safe, reliable operation and runs no matter how hard the wind is blowing. As well, the simple design allows it to fit easily into existing urban or rural environments with minimal impact to the surrounding environment (i.e. wildlife, noise, etc.). And because the Wind Snorkel has no moving parts, its virtually maintenance free, easy to construct and operates at any wind speed. Manufacture of the Wind Snorkel is similar to that of a flag or utility pole all thats needed is a tapered column made of lightweight, durable material such as steel, plastic, concrete, composites or even wood. And because there's no heavy machinery to mount atop a pole or large lateral forces to contend with, the Wind Snorkel requires a smaller foundation than a typical wind-turbine, dramatically reducing the cost of installation - making it an affordable option for households and developing communities looking to harness wind power for the first time. Problem to Be Solved: While wind power is one of the more cost effective sources of renewable energy available, power is generated only when the wind is blowing and storing the energy until it can be used is difficult. As well, turbine efficiency and reliability remain a problem - in practice, few wind turbines are able to achieve better than 40%-50% efficiency and wind power is very capital intensive.
