This is a documentary film about our local economic issues 4 months before 9/11 happened. It is very profound and foretelling as we lost our collective social consciousness after 9/11. And we are just now realizing the consequences of ignoring our home issues. Crime is up, youth are disillusioned, our economy is out of whack, home prices over-inflated, homelessness and immigration are still vital issues while most of us are struggling to make ends meet. It's time to take another look at what is happening within our borders and to take a look at the impact our leaders decisions over the last 5 years have had on our society and collective psyche.
The film is somewhat prophetic.

I want to spread the message in this film as it is more relevant today than when it was filmed. There is a certain amount of tension as a wedding was disrupted in Santa Barbara (as you will see in the tunnel scene), the police were uneasy as were the residents. The march culminated in a rousing speech from a long haired, barefoot Julia Butterfly Hill.
Enjoy this piece of cultural history.

"PLEASE DON'T LET OUR GOOD THING END" - Released 1983. Z.Z. HILL & DOROTHY MOORE, Arziel Hill (September 30th 1935, Naples, Texas U.S.A. — April 27th, 1984, Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.) known popularly as Z. Z. Hill, was an African American blues singer, in the soul blues tradition, known for his 1970s and 1980s recordings for Malaco. His Down Home Blues album (1982) stayed on the Billboard soul album chart for nearly two years, The title track was the best-known blues song of the 1980's. This track, plus the songs, "Someone Else Is Steppin In" and "Open House" have become R&B/Southern soul standards. Hill began his singing career in the late 1950s as part of a gospel group called The Spiritual Five, touring Texas. Around 1960, he started collecting records by B. B. King, Freddie King, Sam Cooke, Bobby "Blue" Bland and Wilson Pickett and began singing and writing songs influenced by these styles. In 1964, Hill moved to California and recorded "You Were Wrong" on his brother's M.H. record label. The single charted and Hill released several more singles for Kent, but none of them charted. He moved labels several times, including signing with Phil Walden's Macon, Georgia based Capricorn label, but Hill refused to record for Walden, and his recording contract was bought by Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams' Mankind label, where Hill finally fulfilled his end of the deal. In 1971, Williams recorded Hill in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and they had hits including "Faithful & True" (Cash Box Top 100) and "Chokin' Kind" (Cash Box R&B #50). With his brother's help, Hill then signed to United Artists, where he released several successful singles. During the United Artist period in the mid 1970s, he was aided by arrangements and compositions by established R&B talents like Lamont Dozier and Allen Toussaint. One of Hill's biggest selling hits came while signed to Columbia, "Love Is So Good When You're Stealing It," which spent 18 weeks on the Billboard R&B chart in the summer of 1977.[1] Signed to Malaco in 1979, Hill's next hit single was "I'm Gonna Stop You From Givin' Me The Blues," in 1980. Hill's recording of songwriter George Jackson's "Cheatin' In The Next Room," was released in early 1982 and broke into the top 20 nationally, spending a total of 20 weeks on the charts. He had a number of best-selling albums on the Malaco label out of Jackson, Mississippi, the biggest one being "Down Home Blues", which is now regarded as a blues classic. This album sold in excess of one million copies, and remains a favorite to this day. Some of the other notable Malaco sides that received massive airplay in the early 80's particularly are "Someone Else Is Steppin' In", "Bump And Grind", "Shade Tree Mechanic", and "Get You Some Business". A label-mate, Denise LaSalle, wrote his signature tune, "Down Home Blues", and later recorded and had a hit with it as well. In fact, many blues artists either have recorded "Down Home Blues" or include it in their on-stage shows around the world. Hill's career was cut short when he died suddenly of a heart attack, after a road accident in 1984, at the age of 48....... DOROTHY MOORE, (born 13th October 1946, Jackson, Mississippi) is an American pop, R&B, and soul singer best known for her 1976 hit song, "Misty Blue". She began singing with The New Stranger Home Baptist Church Choir at the age of five, and, eventually, she became a soloist. While attending Jackson State University, she formed an all-female group called The Poppies with Fern Kinney, Petsye McCune and Rosemary Taylor. The group recorded for Columbia Records' Date subsidiary, reaching number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966 with "Lullaby Of Love". Abortive solo singles for the Avco, GSF and Chimneyville labels followed. She left the music industry for several years, but in 1986 recorded a gospel set, I'm Givin' It Straight To You, in Nashville, Tennessee for the Rejoice label. It yielded a cover of Brother Joe May's "What Is This" that became a Top 10 gospel hit. Moore returned to secular music in 1988, recording two albums for the Volt subsidiary of Fantasy Records. In 1990 she returned to her original label, Malaco, for whom she recorded several albums during the ensuing decade and into the new millennium. The same year she toured the UK, with Ben E. King and Eddie Floyd. Her own label, Farish Street Records released her holiday album, Please Come Home for Christmas, in 2002. Moore has four Grammy Award nominations.[2] Her version of "Misty Blue" appeared on the 2005 compilation album, Classic Soul Ballads. She has been inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame.

The best Japanese green tea is shin-cha or "new tea" which is the year's first harvest. May is the tea harvest season throughout most of Japan and many farmers take special care to select the best leaves for use in making shin-cha. While hiking in the hills near our home we met a nice family who were spending the day picking shin-cha the old fashioned way, by hand. Most Japanese farmers use machines to harvest the tea and it was a real treat for us to have a chance to watch this family bring in the harvest the old fashioned way. This friendly family were quick to invite us to join them and our daughter Emily received special instructions from the grandmother on how to properly pick green tea by hand. We were invited to share summer oranges as they took their break and they told us of how the people of their village had slowly reclaimed land from the river bed over several centuries to produce the tea fields they were now working in. Their large farmhouse stood at the top of a nearby hill overlooking the beautiful valley. They even gave us their cards which they made themselves and which proudly featured photos of their tea fields and their lovely village.
At the end of this video you will see the extend of this family's tea field which they told us would provide them with enough tea for their own consumption for a single year.

You can't go wrong with an Australian Shepherd, they are simply the best.
Most of the pictures were taken in the hills of our home in Thousand Oaks,California and in the rugged Sespe Wilderness area of the Los Padres National Forest. At age 10, he's no longer up to heat and harsh terrain unless he's in the back of our family Jeep.
Burly still loves nothing more than to hike a few miles and soak in a creek.
